Daniel James Draper (1810 - 1866). Born Wickham, Hampshire 28 August 1810. In 1830 joined the Methodist Society at Fareham and became a local preacher. Nominated in March 1834 as a candidate for the Wesleyan Methodist ministry. Appointed preacher on probation to the Charteris circuit. Married Sarah Webb in September 1835, ordained 7 October 1835, sailed for Australia on 13 October 1835. Served at Parramatta, where his wife died on 16 February 1838. Married Elizabeth Shelley (1808 - 1866) daughter of William Shelley, formerly a missionary in Tonga and Tahiti in July 1939. Served in N.S.W., Victoria and South Australia. Elected President of the 1859 Conference. Granted leave in 1865 to return to England as the Australian representative to the British Conference. He was returning to Australia on the SS London in January 1866 when he and his wife, along with 244 others, perished when their ship sank during a fierce storm in the Bay of Biscay.B & W waist length printed etching of the Rev. Some photos are dated 1873 and 1867 and names include C C Hunt July 17/66. This album contains a number of photographs by some of Warrnambool’s earliest photographers and while the subjects are unknown, the still add to the body of work by these artists which have survived to this day. As visual recorders of people they have left a valuable resource in their work through the depiction of some of our earliest people but also a useful record of fashion and styles of the mid to late 20th century Brown leather cover with green metal edge and hinged locks (one Missing). Arrived in Australia in 1820 where he worked for ten years in NSW and Vic before going to SA where he worked for the next 20 years. He built the Pirie Street Methodist Church. He left SA in 1855 returning to Victoria where, in 1859, he was elected President of the Australian Conference. Rev Draper returned to England in 1865 where he was appointed representative to the British Conference from Australia. He set out to return to Australia with his wife on the SS London in 1866 which almost immediately ran into a storm and all but 19 passengers died. SHERIDAN, H.R ...Belonged to the Melbourne Harbour Trust Commissionersarge, wooden, rectangular "Roll of Honour" board for the Melbourne Harbour Trust Commissioners. It was their honourary board for employees who went to the 1st World War. comprised of seven panels with names of people carved into them. The centre panel has "in Memorium' in brass lettering and is raised out from the three panels which flank it on either side. The main lettering across the top of the board is made from brass, and is attached to the wood. A circular brass crest is featured in the centre top of the board, which is flanked by carved gum leaves and nuts.
